Thales turns drones into electronic spies with 11-pound EW payload

11-pound electronic warfare weapon

The new device significantly improves small electronic warfare (EW) capabilities.

This system allows for passive surveillance, collecting information without sending detectable signals. This is important for missions where communication is limited, or there are many radio signals.

Thales said this system is user-friendly, enabling military units to use it with little training.

Once airborne, the system can scan, detect, and locate enemy radio frequency sources, helping soldiers quickly spot potential threats.

This capability closes a longstanding gap between high-end EW platforms operated by specialist units and the growing need for distributed electromagnetic situational awareness across conventional maneuver units.

Thales’ solution supports distributed operations, electronic order of battle (EOB) generation, and battlefield spectrum management by pushing EW tools to the tactical edge.
