Iran's Supreme Leader Breaks Silence on Trump's Strikes![]() Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spoke out for the first time since President Donald Trump's decision to bomb the country's nuclear facilities over the weekend. Khamenei posted on X, formerly Twitter, "Those who know the Iranian people and their history know that the Iranian nation isn't a nation that surrenders." His comments also come after Iran launched missile strikes Monday on a U.S. military base in Qatar in retaliation — an escalation that further inflamed tensions across the region. Iran launched 19 missiles at the sprawling, Al Udeid Air Base with one striking the facility but causing no casualties, a Qatari military official said late Monday. Officials added that the country's airspace had been secured. The NYT report said that since Israel launched its strikes on June 13, Khamenei has been sheltering in a bunker, mostly speaks with his commanders through a trusted aide and has suspended electronic communications.
