Horrifying footage of plane on fire after takeoff in Las Vegas with 'explosion sounds' Horrifying footage of plane on fire after takeoff in Las Vegas with 'explosion sounds' An American Airlines plane was forced to return to Las Vegas on Wednesday after reporting an issue with its engine shortly after takeoff. Flight 1665 was en route to Charlotte, North Carolina at 8:20 a.m. local time on Wednesday morning, but had to return to Harry Reid International Airport. The plane landed safely and no injuries were reported, according to airport spokesperson Luke Nimmo. Nimmo said 165 passengers were on the flight. A video on social media showed flames and smoke billowing from the plane's left engine after it emitted a loud, booming sound. Upon returning to the airport, Nimmo said the fire department had inspected the engines. "The aircraft taxied to the gate under its own power," he said. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident. Earlier this month, two people were killed when a small plane crashed near Green Valley, Arizona, which is located west of Tucson, per the FAA. It was confirmed by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department that a privately owned plane was found crashed in the mines west of the city.
