Donald Trump announces Israel-Iran ceasefire after '12-day war' US President Donald Trump has announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel that is set to begin in approximately six hours. Trump, speaking just hours after Iran attempted to attack a US military base, praised both countries for having the "stamina, courage and intelligence" to end the war. On his social media platform Truth Social, the President wrote: "Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World." He also congratulated everyone and said: "It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!" A senior Iranian official has told Reuters news agency that Tehran has agreed to the ceasefire. Reuters understands that the deal was proposed by the US and mediated by Qatar as Trump got Israel to agree to the plan, but needed Doha's help to persuade Iran.
