For decades, the U.S. has depended on countries like China for critical minerals, but that may be changing soon.

U.S. President Donald Trump has invoked wartime powers to boost domestic production of critical minerals, including uranium, copper, potash, and gold, through financing, loans, and other investment support.

On Thursday, the U.S. president signed an executive order invoking the Cold War-era Defense Production Act (DPA) in a move aimed at curbing China’s near-control of the sector.
