Supreme Court lets Trump deport migrants to dangerous countries like South Sudan The Supreme Court has cleared the way for the Trump administration to resume fast-track deportations of migrants to third countries — even if those nations are wracked by conflict — temporarily lifting a lower court order that had required giving migrants a chance to challenge such removals. The decision follows a federal judge’s finding that the administration violated a prior court order when it deported eight migrants to war-torn South Sudan in May, the Associated Press reported. All eight individuals had been convicted of serious crimes in the United States. Immigration officials claimed they were unable to quickly return the migrants to their home countries and instead flew them to a U.S. naval base in Djibouti before transferring them to South Sudan. U.S. District Judge Brian E. Murphy in Boston ruled this action violated his court order, which allowed people to argue they could face torture if sent away from their home countries. The deported individuals, originating from countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cuba, had been convicted of serious crimes in the U.S. Immigration officials stated they were unable to quickly return them to their home countries, the Associated Press reported.
