Leavitt demands retraction after CNN claims Dems not informed of Iran strike

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Sunday demanded a retraction from CNN after it reported several Democratic Party leaders were not informed in advance of President Donald Trump’s decision to strike multiple nuclear sites in Iran.

The outlet reported House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., were each notified of the strikes “ahead of time.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., only received notice “shortly before the public announcement — and after the attack itself.”

Leavitt slammed the outlet in a post via X and accused it of falsifying its information.

“This is Fake News,” she wrote. “The White House made bipartisan courtesy calls to Congressional Leadership and spoke to @SenSchumer before the strike. @RepJeffries could not be reached until after, but he was briefed. @CNN please retract.”

CNN addressed Leavitt’s claims in the piece and acknowledged “a source conceded that Schumer had been called around 6 p.m. – a little less than an hour before the strikes began – with little detail.” It also added a correction reading “this story has been updated to make clear Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was called before the strike, not after as initially reported.”
