Heathrow Airport fire investigated by terror cops as outage sparks worldwide chaos

Counter-terrorism police are investigating the massive fire that has broken out near London's Heathrow Airport.

The fire has caused delays to at least 1,300 flights after it caused a significant power outage. Travelers are urged to check with their airlines to determine the status of their flight. It took place at the North Hyde Electricity Substation, which is in Hayes, west London.

The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command is leading an investigation into the fire, according to STVNews. The skills of the team will help officials quickly determine the cause of the fire and whether foul play was involved.

A spokesperson for the Met told Express: "We are working with the London Fire Brigade to establish the cause of the fire which remains under investigation. While there is currently no indication of foul play we retain an open mind at this time.

"Given the location of the substation and the impact this incident has had on critical national infrastructure, the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command is now leading enquiries. This is due to the specialist resources and capabilities within that command that can assist in progressing this investigation at pace to minimise disruption and identify the cause."
