Chuck Schumer hospitalized for dehydration after feeling lightheaded during scorching heat wave

WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was taken to a local hospital Wednesday morning for dehydration treatment as the Northeast battles a scorching heat wave.

The Brooklyn Democrat, 74, became lightheaded while working out on a stationary bike in the Senate gym, a source told The Post.

A rep for Schumer confirmed the lawmaker was briefly hospitalized “out of an abundance of caution,” but was later released and has since returned to work at the Capitol.

In the afternoon, Schumer attended a press conference focused on airline safety, where he was joined by families of victims of the 2009 Colgan Air crash.

The Northeast megalopolis has faced relentless hot weather this week, with temperatures in DC and the Big Apple both reaching the high-90s.

On Tuesday, New York City recorded its highest temperatures since 2012, Fox Weather confirmed.

Schumer’s brief hospital stay is one of a few minor health problems to afflect the senator over the past decade.

He was diagnosed with pneumonia in 2016 and tested positive for COVID-19 in 2022, dealing with minor symptoms at the time.
