Chuck Schumer Says the United States is in a Constitutional Crisis Thanks to ‘Lawless, Angry’ Trump

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told NBC’s Kristen Welker the country is in a “constitutional crisis” in an interview that will air on Sunday’s Meet the Press.

Following a week of attacks from within his own party after he supported a GOP-led continuing resolution bill to keep the government open, the New York Democrat sat down with Welker.

The pair did not touch on calls for Schumer to be replaced as the leading Senate Democrat in the short preview released Thursday evening by NBC News.

However, in the clip Welker did press Schumer about calls to impeach a judge who ordered President Donald Trump to pause deportation flights that were ordered after the president cited the Aliens Enemies Act of 1798.

“This week, the president called to impeach a judge who ruled against him on deportations of alleged Venezuelan gang members, as you know,” Welker said. “Supreme Court Justice John Roberts released a rare statement, rebuking the idea of using impeachment to settle judicial disagreements. Some constitutional scholars and fellow Democrats, Leader Schumer, say this is a constitutional crisis.”

Welker asked Schumer, “Do you agree?” He replied:
